Background on High School Workshops

1. To introduce Drawdown to high school Eco Teams at the four local Caledon high schools
2. To build ties between the drawdown solutions and school Eco Team projects
3. To support Eco Teams to engage their students in Drawdown

A Two Session Workshop (Two 45 minute sessions over two weeks) was held.

The first session introduced Drawdown, highlighted the sectors and asked students to do a “5 W investigation” of projects in small teams that tied in with a Drawdown solution.

In the second session students shared their “5 W investigation” results and decided as a total Eco Team which projects their team could take on in the near future (e.g., manage left overs in the cafeteria (Reduce Food Waste: DD Solution # 3) and investigate public transportation (Mass Transit; DD Solution # 37) in Bolton.

i) Two high schools participated in the spring while a third is scheduled for the early fall. A forth is planned for the Fall or Winter –this will mean that all Eco Teams will have an introduction and start on Drawdown.
ii) Students on the Eco Teams were enthusiastic in pursuing the DD solutions.
iii) The Eco Teams at both high schools plan to work on some of the projects they investigated in the fall.
