ECOCALEDON DRAWDOWN CONNECTION PROFILE

Mount Wolfe Forest Farm is primarily a CSA farm in the north-eastern corner of Caledon run by the Crandall sisters and their staff, including some on a workshare basis.

“We provide our members with year-round food, access to workshops and a sense of community. We believe that by connecting people to the land, we can connect to each other. The result: a stronger community that reaps greater economic, environmental and social benefits.”

Owner Profile: Debbe Crandall, Sarah Crandall Haney, Sheilagh Crandall and Marce Showell

The Crandall sisters decided, upon inheriting their parent’s farm, to continue the tradition of farming and create the Mount Wolfe Forest Farm Community Supported Agriculture hub. Together, with 3rd generation farm manager Sarah Dolamore, they offer farm grown vegetables and fruits, farm grown chickens and have created a network of locally sourced (not more than 150 km) “specialty” items from companies, farms and bakeries with ethical practices in line with their own. The sisters’ parents bought the farm more than 50 years ago and added so many trees over the years that it truly has become a forest. A green house and some dedicated acreage have created spaces for the crops to grow and for chickens to free-range. The farm offers tours to interested CSA prospective clients and is a beautiful, lush, calming destination for those members arriving weekly and bi-weekly to pick up their shares.

Mount Wolfe Forest Farm has many SUSTAINABLE practices including:

  • using sustainable and responsible agricultural practices
  • using crop rotation between plants and animals
  • raising free-range meat chickens for pest management and soil fertility
  • using regenerative practices to maximize the health of the land
  • offering a full selection of foods from local businesses and other local farmers
  • offering workshares, among other membership options
