Owner Profile: Davis Family (Sean and John)
Sean Davis and his father John Davis run the Davis Farm and Feed Supply and the near by farm.
“If you want to do something you love, you find ways to do it. Sean Davis’s farming practices and actions are not only sustainable, but so is his attitude towards the farm and Caledon. The whole Davis family is community minded; Joanne Davis Sean’s mother won the 2017 Caledon Community Champion for her significant contribution through volunteer community efforts over the years.
Sustainable Agricultural approaches to Farm
Sean highlights many SUSTAINABLE farming practices including:
- Crop rotation;
- Use of non GMO seed;
- Only one application of herbicide when crops planted;
- The use of all plant material (imagine sunflower seed plants!) as compost that goes back into the soil;
- Free run chickens (over 250) in the barn (free range would risk deaths from predators such as coyotes);
- Use a natural approach to farming with less equipment similar to farming of the past
